Animal-themed cafés are huge in South Korea, especially in Seoul. These popular places combine the concept of a café with the presence of animals. You can enjoy a cup of coffee or tea while interacting with a variety of resident animals, such as cats, dogs, birds, and even more exotic creatures like hedgehogs or owls. One such place is the Kitty Cat Café in Pyeongtaek.
Welcome to the Kitty Cat Café – Pyeongtaek, South Korea
Upon our arrival, a female staff member gave us some hand sanitizer and provided and white bags to store our purses, and she politely instructed us to remove our shoes and slip on the provided house slippers.
She then proceeded to inform us of a couple of rules visitors must follow to ensure the cats remain healthy, happy, and safe. You are not allowed to hug or pick the cats up, for example. And it’s not permitted to give them human food.
Seating areas
You then have the choice between two seating areas – one western-styled and one traditional, where you can sit on the heated floor.
The entire Kitty Cat Café is made out of wood – from the floors and walls to the tables.
Everything is designed with the wellbeing of felines in mind. There are plenty of food and water bowls to eat and drink from, and many cat hammocks and beds to guarantee a good nap. They even have lots of perches for climbing and scratching.
This animal-themed café also features a private room where the feline residents can retreat to if they desire some privacy or a break from human interaction. In this dedicated space, the cats have access to litter boxes and a cozy area for resting, ensuring their well-being and comfort are prioritized.
Food and drinks
Kitty Cat Café has a variety of teas, coffees, and smoothies to choose from. These are slightly more expensive than in other cafés (around KRW7000 or $6.20) because the extra cost helps to pay for the cats’ food, supplies, and medical assistance. Children get a reduced rate.
However, you are allowed to stay at the café and interact with the cats for an unexpected period of time, which isn’t always the case in other animal-themed cafés.
Café cats
The resident cats of Kitty Cat Café are particularly soft and fluffy, but they are a variety of different colors – mostly gray, white, and tabby. Most of these Pyeongtaek cats have a calm disposition; they are content to just remain still. Yet they are often looking for interaction with humans, and they are always willing to play or to be lavished with pets.
Board games
Strangely enough, not everyone at the Kitty Cat Café of Pyeongtaek is interested in the cats. The majority of visitors is actually more fascinated by the large selection of board games. The instructions and components of these are all in Korean, by the way, and not in English.
