Pip the Beach Cat was once a wounded and abandoned stray. Now, he’s a famous spokes-cat for underserved children and seniors. With his own book and a charitable mission, Pip has become nothing short of a local celebrity in his hometown, Ocean City in Maryland.
Pip’s early days as a wounded stray kitten
Pip first made appearances as an adorable and friendly kitten at the Berlin Christmas Parade, the Ocean City Police Department, Winter Fest OC, and various restaurants. A kind-hearted grandmother discovered Pip and started caring for the tiny kitten. However, when the grandmother had to move, Laura Meadows, a compassionate high school student and friend of the family, stepped up to take Pip in. Laura’s family declined to keep Pip, so her older sister Emily Meadows and her husband graciously offered to take care of him “temporarily.”
Initially, the plan was to take Pip to the humane society, but circumstances changed when they found out the shelter was full. This unexpected turn of events led to Pip staying with the Meadows family. It didn’t take long for Emily to realize how special and extraordinary Pip was. However, her first priority was to nurse him back to health. Pip had severe eye inflammation, almost rendering his eyes shut, and was in a very dirty condition. There were concerns about his hearing as well since he showed no response when called or when noises were made around him. A visit to the vet for a thorough ear cleaning revealed that Pip’s hearing was intact, and now he could hear everything around him, much to Emily’s delight.
Embracing the beach life
Pip finds solace and joy in spending time at the Ocean City beach, where he has become a familiar face among the crowds. His favorite pastimes include chasing seagulls, digging holes in the sand, and playfully running behind leaves. Pip’s adventurous spirit even extends to surfing on a boogie board, showcasing his unique talents and capturing the attention of onlookers. Local reporters quickly recognized his affinity for the beach, dubbing him “Pip the Beach Cat” and further elevating his fame within the community.
If you take a trip to Ocean City, chances are you will meet this local feline celebrity, and he will more than likely want to socialize with you.
