The Al Azem palace is one of the must-see buildings in Damascus, Syria. A traditional palace with courtyards, fountains, and historic chambers, the Al Azem was originally built in 1750 as a residence for the Ottoman governor of Damascus As'ad Pasha al-Azm. The palace now houses the Museum of Arts and Popular Traditions. For cat lovers, however, the true draw isn't the palace's beauty but that of its many cats.

  4. Those kitties are pretty damn handsome. There are some great places to see in Syria. There's a really rich history. Unfortunately it's really being screwed over by the present.

  9. These kitties are gorgeous. It's a shame that places with so many history and patrimony like Syria are being destroyed.

  10. Gorgeous kitties! It looks like they had a lot to say to you. There's nothing wrong with friendly kitties. :) This sounds like a beautiful place. It is too bad that Syria has to be such a scary place right now.

  21. It is a jarring dichotomy to see such peaceful kitties given what we know about what is happening in Syria. I suppose that it is a testimony to the resiliency of life...that in the midst of war, life continues to go on.

Thanks for sharing with us for Photo Friday!
