Can a cat and a hamster really be best friends?

These heartwarming pictures were taken by cat owner Paul Mealey in Westport, County Mayo, Ireland. He saw his two-year-old rescue cat, Lala, play in the garden with his new best friend: a hamster. The cat gave the rodent kisses and cuddles, and seemed to forget that they were supposed to be best enemies instead of best friends.

    How sweet. Bailey Boat Cat just got a couple of new hamster furiends. Not sure how well he's taking to them judging by the expression on his face in the photo of one of them climbing on him. It will be interesting to follow in the days ahead to find out...mol. =^,,^=

    Not to be an anal retentive nitpicker or anything, but I believe that's a gerbil. Hamsters have short, almost non-existent tails.

    I love this! Cats can make friends with all sorts of different animals which are supposed to be their enemies. Rats, mice and other rodents, birds and dogs. Beautiful photos. :)

    I have a cat that looks just like this. Enjoyed the pictures, but it is hard to believe they are friends! Very cute photos. My cat might play with a little critter like that for a while...but soon the "playing" would get much too rough.
