Cat from Riva Ligure {Italy}

Alongside the major Italian tourist destinations that you've already heard of, there are many others that may come as a surprise.

The seaside town of Riva Ligure, situated in the province of Imperia, is one such place.

Riva Ligure is perhaps the wildest place on the Riviera di Ponente. Some floricultural plants even reach the beach to the east of the mouth of the Torrente Argentina, and the sea often gives large quantities of algae that cover the entire waterfront. This gives some traditional tourists the impression of a neglected place without interest.

Other travelers love the somewhat older atmosphere here.

The charm of this town lies in the fact that it has few seaside facilities, tourist attractions, and artifacts.

One of the only new structures of the Riva Ligure is the cycle parth that follows the old, disused railway track.

Its highlights are the beach, the small port, the Torre Barbaresca, and the Chiesa di San Maurizio Martire church.

Will you be visiting the Italian coastal town Riva Ligure in the near future?

Then be sure to go to the beach and share your picnic with this ginger kitty. He particularly likes smoked salmon.

Cats from Aoshima {Japan}

Japan counts around a dozen so-called cat islands, and Aoshima, in the Ehime prefecture, is one of the most popular.

Cats outnumber humans six to one on Aoshima. Yet, as the population grows older and the residents leave,  this number is ever growing.

Even though the cat island is not designed for tourists, it has seen a steep rise in visitors over the past few years, and ferries now go twice daily to Aoshima.

However, there are no restaurants, hotels, shops, or even vending machines.

Tourists should bring their own food and drinks, and they are responsible for taking their garbage back to the mainland.

The cats sleep in abandoned houses or strut about in the quiet fishing village

The many visitors can feel a little overwhelming to them, but at the same time, they are one of their only source of food.

Since the veterinarians have left with the rest of the population, roughly one-third of the cats and kittens of Aoshima are struggling with untreated upper-respiratory infections. That means the cats are stuck in a cycle of giving birth and dying young.

The good news is that visitors are allowed to adopt the cats and kittens of Aoshima, so at least a good number of them are being given a safe and warm forever home.

The ICRA adoption fee for a kitten or a cat under eight years of age is $100; $75 for a cat over eight. If you adopt two cats together, the second cat comes at half the price.

If only Parisian pigeons could be replaced by cats...

But even though cats aren't as common a sight as pigeons, photographers still succeed in immortalizing them.

Here are the most beautiful pictures of cats in Paris from the 1920s to the present day.

Thee photographs will draw you into the secret world of the French cat as they explore the city's most famous and feline-friendly spots.

Say "bonjour" to the cats of Paris as they slink through its fabled streets and alleyways, from Montmartre to the Champ de Mars, or as they lounge about behind the windows of restaurants, shops, or even their own homes.
