Yesterday afternoon, just before going to a film production meeting for my story Next to Her, I visited the Poezenboot Caprice in Ghent, Belgium. This cat shelter is known all over the world (visitors come as far as China) because it's located on a boat. You can spend the entire afternoon at the cat boat, cuddling the cats, or having a drink in their company. At the end of the day, you are welcome to adopt one of them. Once in a while, they have a few dogs, too.
Every year, the cat boat Caprice takes in over a thousand cats. They nurture them to health and do their best to find them a home. They also bring over sick and wounded animals from Greece in order to give them a better life in Belgium.
The Poezenboot Caprice is open daily (except Mondays) from 2 pm to 6 pm. The address is Nieuwevaart 300 in 9000 Ghent, Belgium. To visit, you're advised to take tramway number one at the Ghent train station until you arrive at the canal.
Good news: when I was at the cat boat Caprice, the kitty from the last two pictures got adopted :-)
You can find more info about tourist activities in Ghent here.
P.S. Have you seen our pictures from the cat boat in Amsterdam and the Torre Argentina Cat Sanctuary in Rome?
Everything looks so nice and clean there and the cats are healthy and adorable!
ReplyDeleteWhat lovely photos!
ReplyDeleteAwesome photos :-)
ReplyDeleteHave a tanfastic week :-)
Awww and there is one dog too. So precious.
ReplyDeleteI linked you to my Awww Mondays meme.

ReplyDeleteI love cats. The first one is so pretty. I wonder what the second and the dog are looking at. lol
ReplyDeleteSo neat! Thanks for sharing these beautiful kitties - very cool that you got to see one get adopted!
ReplyDeleteIf only every place has an furry shelter to protect and care for the homeless or abused furry friends. These are so cute.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful thing they are ding! Is it run by a couple? That last kitty is lucky, I can see why he was adopted. Looking at your pictures, it is hard to believe it is on a boat! It looks like a cafe of some sort. I think my favorite is the kitties looking up from inside the deep blue bed.
ReplyDeleteWhat adorable cat shots.
ReplyDeleteI want to go there!
ReplyDeleteIt looks like they take really good care of the cats there. All of the cats pictured seem to be in great shape. It's great that so many people have taken notice of this shelter. I'm very happy for the kitty that got adopted :)

Wow - what a great shelter! I've been daily visiting my local shelter, because I needed to wait 4 weeks until I could take my cats home. They had ear mites, and the shelter wanted to treat their ears first. Tomorrow I can finally take them home, and I'm so excited!
ReplyDeleteMy local shelter is doing a great job, but the shelter in Gent is really gorgeous. Thank you for blogging about it - I've been visiting Gent many times, but I hadn't heard about their shelter. I'll sure step by when I'm in Gent next time.
That sounds like the right way to go!
ReplyDeleteWe have heard about the cat boat! It's nice to be able to see what it looks like...thanks.
ReplyDeleteHave a great Wednesday...

ReplyDeleteCa c'est un refuge génial. Les chats ont l'air calmes et sereins.
ReplyDeleteEn terme d'adoption c'est surement plus efficace que les refuges classiques.
Bonne soirée

This must have been such an experience being on a cat boat /shelter. Just passed Ghent once during a road trip. Very interesting post.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful story. We took our cat on our boat, but since it was a powerboat it made lots of noise and was bouncy down below. He didn't like cruising very much, but loved it when we were at anchor. - Margy
ReplyDeleteA cat boat! How interesting. The photos are extraordinary.
ReplyDeleteHow purrfect! I'd love to spend a time with those lovelies.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful shelter and the novelty of being a boat must draw a lot of attention for the kitties.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea and fabulous shots.
ReplyDeleteThey are beautiful! I miss having a cat.
ReplyDeleteThat is so cool! What a great shelter and great idea for cats. We were involved in a cat rescue this past week here in South Africa. Here's the link to that story and WW Linky:
